Transfer News: Five Premier League clubs interested in Scott McTominay
According to 90min (h/t Manchester Evening News), five Premier League clubs are interested in Scott McTominay. Newcastle United, Everton, West Ham United, Leicester City and Southampton are all interested in the 25-year-old midfielder.
It comes after United agreed in principle to sign Casemiro from Real Madrid. The Brazilian’s imminent arrival means McTominay is likely to lose his place in the starting XI. And it will not be surprising.
Despite being one of the regulars, the Scotland international has struggled to consistently deliver strong performances. He was below par against Brighton & Hove Albion in midfield and came on as a second-half substitute against Brentford.
However, the Reds haven’t said he’s available to leave while the player hasn’t submitted a transfer request either. But that hasn’t stopped rival clubs from showing interest in the 25-year-old.
Casemiro could link up with Christian Eriksen in midfield, with Bruno Fernandes playing up front as an attacking midfielder. Fred could also link up with Casemiro, with the two already playing together for their country Brazil.
It’s also possible that McTominay somehow retains his place in the starting XI at the expense of one of the aforementioned names. He was pretty good when he played under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and he can still find that form.
McTominay will likely go on loan if he decides to leave. With just days to go until the market closes, it could be difficult for United to make a long-term decision on him. Despite the Scot’s poor performances, he still helps add depth to the team.
The 25-year-old is expected to see a reduction in his playing minutes this season. But it will be wise for him to hang back and fight for his place in the team. Such a move will also likely be welcomed by Ten Hag, who would love to have fighters on his team.
It remains to be seen whether McTominay stays or leaves. However, for now, he is in contention to start the game against Liverpool on Monday. Good performances in this game could help the Scot in the long run.

United fans would be very forgiving of him if he could inspire the Red Devils to win against their rivals.
